Background:
In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
The UN Women Sub-regional Office for Central and South Eastern Europe launched a regional project in January 2011 titled “Advancing the Implementation of UN SCRs on Women, Peace and Security in the Western Balkans”. The project, implemented during the period of 2011-2013, will further develop and strengthen the capacity of key governmental and civil society stakeholders to implement and monitor the commitments under the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (and complementary resolutions 1820, 1888, 1889 and 1960) in national laws, policies, strategies and/or plans in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, FYR Macedonia and in Kosovo (under SCR 1244). The project also contributes to accelerated implementation of all women, peace and security oriented resolutions through the strengthening of institutional and organizational capacitates to achieve progress and to monitor and measure same.
UN Women Project Office in Sarajevo is hiring a Project Manager, who will work on implementing the activities to strengthen the capacities, procedures and sustainability of institutional mechanisms for the integration of gender equality principles at the local level in the municipalities of Bratunac, Srebrenica, Lukavac and Kalesija within the Integration of Gender Equality Principles in Local Communities project.
