Background:

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Resident Coordinator and in close cooperation with the Chair of the UN Theme Group on HIV and AIDs (which brings together all the UN agencies working on county-level activities on HIV and AIDS) , , the HIV and AIDS adviser supports the joint UN response to HIV/AIDS at country level, particularly through facilitating the links between the UN system, government, civil society and people living with HIV.

The HIV and AIDS Adviser supports the efficient functioning of the UN Theme Group on AIDS mechanism and facilitates the work of the Joint UN Team on AIDS to ensure coordination and communication within the UN and between the UN, government and all other development partners.
 
The HIV andAIDS Officer works in close collaboration with the staff in other UN Agencies, Government officials, technical advisors and experts, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors and civil society ensuring successful implementation of the joint UN support to the national AIDS response.

Required Skills and Experience:

Education:

-    Master’s Degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Public Health, or related field or relevant Medical practitioner qualifications.
     UNDP-Skopje reserves the right to hire candidates with lower education level.

Experience:

  - 3 years of extensive experience in managing and implementing HIV programs.
  - Good knowledge of Government operations and procedures and good ability to work with wide range of stakeholders.
  - Excellent networking skills at different levels (Government, civil society, private sector, donor community).
  - Good knowledge of rights-based approach, gender issues, evidence of experience in working with marginalised communities and key
    populations of interest and good experience in involving marginalized communities in HIV governance.
  - Experience in working with UN system organizations in technical programs or in public health is an asset.
  - Thorough understanding of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its implications. Knowledge of the UN system of organizations and their delivery
    mechanisms an asset.
  - Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, experience in handling of web based management systems.

Language Requirements:

  - Good written and spoken English

Starting date: 15 July 2012
Expected duration of Assignment: 6 months
