Background Information:
UNDP is seeking an professional company to carry out Implementation of a pilot project to advise SMEs in increasing their resource efficiency and efficiency of operation.
Under the Conservation of Biodiversity and Sustainable Land Use Management Project in Dragash, UNDP is implementing a 3 year project (2010-2013) aiming at the establishment of an institutional framework to enable sustainable development. The four areas of intervention of this project include:
a) conservation of biodiversity,
b) local economic development,
c) development of a local sustainable energy strategy, and
d) the development of capacities within Municipality to ensure the above mentioned framework can be sustained in time.
Dragash, a 435 square kilometers mountain region located in the southern region of Kosovo- Prizren, is characterized today by high level of poverty and migration, combined with a great landscape and considerable water resources. The challenges of the project lay in providing the Municipality with adequate instruments to promote development, based on conservation of biodiversity, adequate land use management, an enabling environment for its communities and sustainable local economic development. Within this framework the Municipal Tourism Strategy will fill an important gap. By the same token, sustainable use of natural resources and mitigation of environmental impacts, is key to Dragash’s development process, particulary so in view of the future inclusion of most of its territory in the Sharr National Park. Environmentally friendly and green enterprises are also a key factor for the development of Dragash.
Objectives of Assignment:
To raise awareness, built skills, transfer technical knowledge, identify and introduce pilot measures in SMEs in Dragash Municipality on increasing the overall economic, resource and environmental efficiency of their operations. Furthermore it is intended to establish basic structures for further replication of the approach
through involvement of local / regional business associations, chambers of commerce, the Municipality of Dragash, and the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MoESP). Replication should also ensure an expanded outreach to the region of Prizren and possibly all Kosovo.
Criteria for selection of SMEs participating in the activities:
1. SMEs should be operating in the Dragash Municipality
2. SMEs should have at least 5 employees
3. SMEs shall submit a declaration of intention to actively participate in the programme (in the collective and individual workshops).
4. The declaration of intention should also specify that company is in principle willing to implement measures given that outcome
is economic and environmental benefit in short and long term
5. The company shall allocate a team of Minimum 2 people as the companies Ecoprofit team.
