Background:
UN Women Project Office in Macedonia is providing support to government and non-governmental partners for the fulfillment of the country’s national and international commitments towards gender equality, including those expressed in the National Action Plan for Gender Equality 2007-2012 and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
In the area of ending violence against women, including domestic violence, UN Women, together with the UN Agencies present in the country has supported the government in implementing the National Strategy for protecting from domestic violence (2008-2011). Through the Joint Programme “Strengthening National Capacities to Prevent Domestic Violence (DV)”, financially supported by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the UN Trust Fund to end Violence against Women, citizens awareness of DV was raised, the legal and policy framework was enhanced and the institutional response in protecting survivors of DV was strengthened. The country’s efforts to respond to and prevent DV were recognized and acknowledged in the 2011 EU progress report. New national strategy on domestic violence for 2012-2015 has been adopted and the National coordination body, officially nominated by the government, is entrusted with monitoring its implementation.
Objective:
Under the direct supervision of the Head of UN Women project office in Skopje, UN Women project office is seeking National Project Coordinator/Project Specialist. The NPC/PS will be responsible for coordination of UN Women activities under Outcome 3.2. of the SP 2012-2013 and the JP with UNDP on “Preventing the DV through competent national institutions and accountable and transparent judicial system”, as well as for tasks related to communication and knowledge management in the UN Women Project office.

Required Skills and Experience:
• University degree in gender studies, social science, public policy, or other relevant field;
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Previous experience in delivering technical assistance to similar areas of work, EVAW, DV, preventing human trafficking etc.
• Experience in partnership and cooperation with government institutions and CSOs;
• Good understanding of project finances and demonstrated experience of formulating, tracking and reporting against budgets;
• Good skills in using office software applications, intranet and internet based applications.
• Fluency in written and oral Macedonian and English; Knowledge of Albanian language shall be considered as asset.
• Previous experience with international organizations is an asset.
