UNDP ALBANIA/ NATIONAL SHORT TERM EXPERT FOR FOOD SAFETY TRAINING IMPACT ASSESSMENT

Background

Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of Albanian economy, though its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has decreased to date to about 28%. The sector remains however the main source of employment for more than half of population. The livestock sector contributes to approximately 50% of the agriculture production value. A nationwide food control and inspection system is required (production to processing, transport chains and distribution to retail shops) with appropriate controls, capacities and financing resources. Consumers show increasingly demand for higher-quality food and animal-origin products. Animal identification and registration, effective monitoring, an institutional strategy for improved inspection services are part of the challenges in this area supported by the mandates of different institutions.

Responsibilities

   - The training need assessment performed by national and international food safety experts ahead of the training in December 2011
   - The existing set of training materials on food safety elaborated in the framework of UNDP livestock project (5 volumes: farm level,
     slaughter, shops and outlets, restaurants  and animal welfare), including check lists
   - The reports of international and national food safety experts, involved as trainers
   - Expertise of project management and national / international short term experts and representatives of institutions and the competent
     authorities, involved in the process
 
Requirements

   - University Degree in Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry,Food Science, Food Technology or related fields
   - Minimum 3 years of practical experience in the food safety sector, animal products and value chains (meat and milk)
   - Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing.

Duration of Initial Contract: 18 working days within period October – November 2012
