Background

The population dynamics in the country follows the patterns of decreasing birth rates and decreasing numbers of young people in the overall population structure, followed by population ageing. Another country’s specificity is the regional inequality and significant difference of the birth rates in urban and  rural areas. The above mentioned issues were identified as key challenges for the country population development in the “National Strategy for Demographic Development of the Republic of Macedonia 2008 – 2015”. It is to be noted that the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy with the support of UNFPA is currently undertaking activities for mid-term revision of the document in order to comply with the emerged issues.
 
Responsibilities

   - Assist in the follow up of the project’s work plan and budget
   - Support international consultant in assesment of the current Strategy
   - Organize initial meeting on the Strategy, and three consequent WG meeting on ageing, migration and family planning, secure relevant
     material and prepare reports. Organize and maintain files on activity documentation and quality control (correspondence, technical
     references, documentation related to the meetings, technical results, etc.)
   - Prepare ToR, participate in selection and support the national consultant in preparation of the report on current policies on ageing.

Requirements

   - University degree in social sciences, economics, or other relevant field; advanced degrees preferred
   - Fluency in written and spoken English and Macedonian language
   - At least 8 years of experience in relevant areas of expertise, in particular with projects with international partners especially UN
     organizations

Expected Duration of Assignment: 15 October 2012 – 30 June 2013
