Background

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers.
In most cultures volunteerism is deeply embedded in long-established, ancient traditions of sharing and support within the communities. In this context, UN Volunteers take part in various forms of volunteerism and play a role in development and peace together with co-workers, host agencies and local communities.

Responsibilities

   - Under instructions from the Project Manager provide assistance to the project team in the full compliance  with UN/UNDP rules,
     regulations, policies and strategies
   - Provision of assistance to the project on compiling different office reports, assessments, findings, data and results-oriented workplans
   - Assist in the identification of operational problems contributing to the development of solutions
   - Contacts with visitors and staff, arrangement of appointments and meetings, acting as an interpreter when required and/or taking minutes
   - Compilation and preparation of briefing and presentation materials, background information and documentation for meetings and
     missions

Requirements

   - Secondary Education, preferably with specialized certification in Accounting, Finance or Project Management or University Degree in
     Business or Public Administration, Economics, Political Sciences and Social Sciences would be desirable, but it is not a requirement
   - Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible administrative experience is required at the national or international level. Experience in
     the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and database
     packages, experience in handling web based management systems
   - Hands-on exposure in supporting and monitoring development projects is considered to be an advantage
   - Previous experience as a volunteer at local, national or international levels is a distinct advantage.

Duration of Initial Contract
: 12 months
