Background
The Albanian economy continues to be dominated by small, very small and micro enterprises. At present, women own 25.7% of businesses in the country; however 18% of private business managers are women. There is an overall lack of data and research on women entrepreneurs in Albania and very little is known on their current situation, trend, and characteristics. What is deducted from scattered research carried out so far is that they have experience in limited sectors such as dentistry, hairdressing, agro-business, dress-making and handicrafts production (Ministry of Economy, 2010 data). There is no classification of these enterprises by their size, capacities, and demographic concentration and no industry classification has been designed so far.
