Background
The Organization for Security and Co-operation is the world's largest security-oriented intergovernmental organization, with 56 participating states. The OSCE has its roots in the 1973 Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (an East-West forum). The Conference opening took place between the Ministers for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki from 3 to 7 July 1973. The second stage consisted of committee meetings between experts and took place in Geneva from 18 September 1973 to 21 July 1975. The third stage, the closure, was a summit meeting of Heads of State and Government of the 35 participating States, held in Helsinki from 30 July to 1 August 1975.
Requirements
- Excellent physical condition
- Possession of a valid automobile driving license and ability to drive using manual transmission
- Ability to cope with physical hardship and willingness to work extra hours and in an environment with limited infrastructure
- University education in law or significant work experience in criminal justice and/or law enforcement (the latter required for police
corrections officer training)
- Experience in the practice of law, e.g. judges, prosecutors, lawyers, etc.
- Knowledge of courtroom proceedings and criminal law and procedure
- Knowledge of international legal procedure standards and instruments
- Demonstrable organizational, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
- Education: Advanced degree in a relevant field
- Experience: Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience
Mission Specific Requirements
Mandatory:
- University degree in law, human rights, or related field; Advanced degree in human rights or international humanitarian law preferred
- Basic knowledge of legal issues related to war crime trials and the BiH justice system
- Experience in programme planning and management
- Excellent writing and reporting skills
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Extensive knowledge of BiH and the conflict and its consequences
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds and diverse political views while
maintaining impartiality and objectivity
- Ability and readiness to work in a stressful environment, and ability to work under time constraints
- Excellent organizational skills, with ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and process large amount of information
- Professional fluency in the English language, both oral and written
- Ability to operate windows applications, including word processing and email
