UNDP SERBIA/ CALL FOR PROPOSALS: SUPPORT TO LOCAL GENDER EQUALITY MECHANISMS

Skip Navigation LinksHome - Item
Deadline: 28-10-2013 Location: Serbia Back

Background
                                                                   Maximum amount: 2000 EUR

Nowadays it is a well-established fact that gender discrimination is one of the main causes of poverty and a major obstacle to equitable and sustainable development. In the public discourse in Serbia today, certain related terminology such as gender, gender equality (GE), gender equity, gender mainstreaming, and others are far from being widely recognised, let alone being fully understood and adopted as some of key bearings on the path to full democratisation of the society. In fact, GE issues are often being reduced to “women rights”. Few in Serbia today recognise that GE is important not only to and for women, but for the society as a whole. Many studies in the last few decades clearly demonstrate direct link between the levels in gender equality a society has achieved and its level of economic and social development. This Call is one of the activities planned when it comes to providing additional support to LSGs, GEMs and local communities ion general to address and advance the Gender Equality agenda.

Objective

The objective of this process is both to assist local GEMs in re-affirming their roles and in providing them with an opportunity to further assert their role within the respective local governments through preparation and execution of relevant GE-related activities, which would advance and emphasize GE agenda in the local communities and in the local governments
