Background
‘Ezerani’ protected area is a high value ecosystem located along the northern shoreline of the Lake Prespa. The ecological values and biodiversity richness of Ezerani render the entire Prespa Lake Basin a special scientific and research significance. Because of its great ornithological importance, Ezerani has been placed on the list of the most important ornithological sites in Europe (IBA-Important Bird Area) and, from 1995, also on the Ramsar Convention List of the most important wetlands in the world (together with the whole of the Macedonian part of Lake Prespa). Recognizing the conservation significance of the area it was also designated in 1996 as a Strict Nature Reserve (IUCN I) in accordance to the national Law on Nature (OJ of SRM, N0 41 of 1973).
Responsibilities
- Basic legal framework for the operation of the protected area, including the specific requirements for ENP
- Administrative procedures as per the national legal requirements (including reporting to the responsible national authorities)
- Key aspects of the implementation of the management plan (including dealing with budgetary and financial issues)
- Basic use of maps, software (e.g. GIS) and other equipment for the needs of the field work and future reporting purposes
- Procedures for dealing with possible illegal activities within the boundaries of ENP in relation to the existing zoning
- Procedures for overcoming possible land ownership related issues (advise on the pertaining procedures for acquiring private land for the
needs of the future restoration works)
- Communication with affected communities and other groups of interest
- Use of METT (Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool)
Requirements
- Minimum M.Sc. (or equivalent) in relevant area (biology, ecology, environmental sciences, protected areas management). Relevant PhD
will be considered an asset
- Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience (practitioner’s and/or research) in such areas as protected areas management,
natural resources management, nature conservation
- At least 4 years of direct experience in protected areas management (including development and implementation protected area
management plans)
- Record from participation in at least 3 relevant assignments (consultancy services in the area of protected areas management, natural
resources management, conservation projects)
- Knowledge of the Prespa region and Ezerani Nature Park is considered an asset
- Macedonian and English language proficiency
