Deadline: 05-12-2013 Location: Kosovo Back

Background

The Kosovo diaspora live mostly in Western European Countries, specifically in Germany (39%), Switzerland (23%), Austria (7%), Sweden (5%), and Great Britain (4%). The long migration history means diaspora communities are well established and there is a high degree of connection with the communities of origin. Because of that, there is a great potential for active engagement of the diaspora in the development of Kosovo.
Research conducted by the DEED (DIASPORA ENGAGEMENT IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT) project has found that economic zones can be effective tools for attracting diaspora investment at the local level. The research has recommended a series of interventions where the project can assist in the development of Economic Zones in which members of diaspora can invest andor manage through PPPs. The project is now at the stage of piloting these recommendations in coordination with the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
