Description


The Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS), funded since 2007 by the German Research Foundation as part of the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments, will admit six additional PhD candidates beginning 1 October 2014. BIGSAS offers three scholarships for candidates whose dissertation projects fit into one of the Graduate School’s new subject areas:

   - Culture and Technology in Africa;
   - Media in Africa;
   - Development Economics in Africa.

The other three candidates, whose dissertation projects fit into one of BIGSAS’ current Research Areas, will be expected to have their own means of funding.


Eligibility

Applicants must have a very good Master’s Degree and good knowledge of English, since that is the working langugae of BIGSAS.


Scholarship

The selected candidates will be offered a limited number of scholarships of EUR 1,200 per month for the period of three years. BIGSAS doctoral students, irrespective of their source of funding, receive travel costs for field trips, conference and summer school attendance.
