Background

Human development is about people, about expanding their choices to live full, creative lives with freedom and dignity. Economic growth, increased trade and investment, technological advance – all are very important. But they are means, not ends. Fundamental to expanding human choices is building human capabilities: the range of things that people can be. The most basic capabilities for human development are living a long and healthy life, being educated, having a decent standard of living and enjoying political and civil freedoms to participate in the life of one’s community.

The incumbent of this position would lead the development researches/reports preparation including review in-house and externally commissioned and conducted research, lead in providing the Country office with  innovative approaches to measurements of human development, networking and consultations with leading scholars and other stakeholders in country, and provide the support to writing the reports.

He/she will maintain communication with HDRO colleagues, lead on the communication and advocacy of report findings, providing the advice to other programs and projects within the office, and contributes organizationally and substantively to the promotion of the human development perspective and knowledge.


Responsibilities

   - Act as the NHDR focal point
   - Supporting the implementation of development agenda
   - Providing the policy advice on Sustainable Human Development
   - Resource mobilization
   - Support the CO Programme effectiveness


Requirements

   - University Degree in social sciences; Advanced degree (MSc) will be considered as advantage;
   - A minimum of 5 years of experience in a management/project coordination capacity with progressively increasing responsibilities,
     preferably with an International Organization, government, a donor agency or an NGO;
   - Experience in leading preparation and managing publication projects and coaching authors; while previous experience and involvement in
     UN/UNDP publication project is a great asset;
   - Familiarity and experience with development of UNDP knowledge products;
   - Extensive experience in research and policy-level analysis;
   - Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate people in a comlex political environment and achieve set goals under time pressure;
   - Familiarity with results-based management;
   - Familiarity with national policy priorities;
   - Familiarity with change management and Public Administration Reform issues and institutions at central and local levels, especially in
     transitional economies, would be an advantage;
   - Proficiency in English is requirement;
   - Computer proficiency (MS Office package, Internet).
