Background
Public opinion in Montenegro is in support of the European integration process. Data from an opinion poll, conducted by IPSOS Agency in February 2014 shows that 73% of Montenegrin citizens support the EU accession process but also that there is insufficient knowledge on EU-Montenegro relations.
There is often a superficial and simplistic understanding among the general public of the negotiation process, EU institutions, EU values, policies and standards, IPA assistance and what the long-term process of approximation to the EU entails.
Citizens of Montenegro need to know more about benefits of accession. The public must be kept informed. EU-related information should be offered to citizens at all levels, locally, regionally and nationally in a language they understand and in a form which is the most appropriate to the specific group.
