TrustMedia, a Thomson Reuters Foundation Service, is organizing the “Governance Reporting” training course that will take place in London from 15-19 December 2014. This course is designed to assist journalists in combating corruption in all its forms. It offers sessions on defining and recognizing corruption and writing media campaigns on the subject.

The aims of the training course are:

   - Define and describe common forms of corruption and the media commitment to redress this to increase public good;
   - Improve critical thinking, including an ethical, objective approach to investigations;
   - Explain in depth a range of financial documents, including government budgets, and published corporate accounts;
   - Offer practical advice on how to uncover and report corruption using investigative journalism techniques;
   - Deepen awareness of potential legal issues;
   - Set guidelines for high-impact news, features and opinion writing.


Eligibility

All applicants for Thomson Reuters Foundation training courses must currently be working as journalists or regular contributors to broadcast media organisations. They must be able to demonstrate a commitment to a career in journalism in their country, must have at least two years’ professional experience and have a good level in spoken and written English.


Costs

Thomson Reuters Foundation offers full scholarships for journalists from the developing countries in political transition working for organisations with no resources for training. Scholarships will cover travel costs, accommodation and a modest living allowance. Part-funded scholarships will also be available for journalists from the developing countries in political transition who work for organisations that have limited resources for training. In this case scholarships will cover tuition fees and the participant will be expected to cover travel and accommodation costs.
