Background Max. Grant amount: EUR 1.000.000
Kosovo is dependent on rural economy in order to sustain its population and to achieve economic development. Urban centres are linked with historic rural communities. Novo Brdo is situated 40 minutes from Pristina and has a potential to benefit from cultural, educational and recreational tourist flows whilst simultaneously increasing its market supply to the capital city. A special advantage to Novo Brdo is its 13th century castle which, suitably exploited, can serve as a catalyst for development of small businesses in agricultural and rural development and in tourism.
A professional protected castle with visitor facilities and attractions creates the interest through which Novo Brdo can be marketed to a wider community. Currently, the visitor attractions of Novo Brdo receive approximately 5,500 visitors per year and this number can be remarkably increased. The register of families offering accommodation is currently 15 but it can be increased with expected tourist inflows. There is a need for training young people in order to respond to increased demand in agriculture and rural tourism. The farmer association in Novo Brdo has hundreds members and is in need of better facilities for processing and storage, also an access to new retail outlets.
