Background Max. Grant amount: EUR 275.000
The European Union (EU) is founded on the principles of liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law. Human Rights and democracy is an important area of EC cooperation and support for priorities and activities in this sector is provided through a number of EU instruments, in all countries. Recognising the vital contribution made by the civil society to the promotion and protection of these principles, the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR)1 was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council in March 2014 for the period 2014-2020 - replacing and building upon the EIDHR (2006-2013). This thematic instrument recognises the importance given to development and consolidation of democracy and the rule of law, and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, of both women and men, by providing financial support for activities supporting these goals.
