Background Max. Grant amount: EUR 1.500.000
The European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development in Georgia (ENPARD Georgia) is a EUR 52 Million EU-funded programme signed with the Government of Georgia in December 2012 and aiming to support the implementation of the Georgian Agriculture Sector Strategy, in particular the support to small farmers through strengthened cooperation and improved access to capacity building, improved efficiency of institutions involved in agriculture and the development of geographical indications. As of 2014, the scope of the ENPARD-Georgia has been expanded beyond the agricultural sector by means of introducing new measures in support to improved employment and living conditions in the rural areas in order to promote the diversification of the rural economy. The inclusion of pilot rural development measures as part of ENPARD responds to the conclusions of the EU Assessment on Agriculture and Rural Development in Georgia carried out in 2013. The assessment concluded that if poverty is to be alleviated, sustained efforts will be required not only to modernize agriculture but also to promote the diversification of economic activities in the rural areas of Georgia. The assessment is in line with the Georgian Agriculture Sector Strategy which foresees the establishment of measures to encourage non-farm rural enterprise development.
