Background
The European Union (EU is founded on the principles of liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and the rule, Human Rights and democracy are important areas of EU-cooperation and support, and activities in this sector are provided through a number of EC instruments such as the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).
The new Regulation1 establishing a financing instrument for the promotion and support of democracy and human rights worldwide, the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR), was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council on 11 March 2014 for the period 2014-2020. The EIDHR follows and builds on the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights previously established for the period 2007-2013 and on the precedent European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights 2000-2006.
Size of grants
Any grant requested under each of the thematic priorities must fall between the following minimum and maximum amounts:
- minimum amount: EUR 61.000
- maximum amount: EUR 120.000.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for a grant, the applicant must:
- be a legal person (individuals are not eligible, nor are informal alliance or initiatives without legal status) registered and operational at
least two years before the call is launched
- be non-profit-making
- be a specific type of organisation such as: non-governmental organisation
- be established in former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia or a Member State of the European Union or countries that are beneficiaries of
the IPA instrument or the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument or countries of the Economic area
