EBRD/CORRIDOR X ROAD PROJECT

Background:

The Agency for State Roads of the Republic of Macedonia intends using the proceeds of a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development [The Bank] for a project to finance a programme for “Construction and installation of electronic tolling systems”.
The proposed project, which has a total estimated cost of Euro 17 million equivalent, will require the procurement of the following works:

   · the installation of new electronic tolling systems for five existing toll stations along Corridor X, the construction of four new toll stations
     and provision of necessary equipment.  

The Implementation of the Project will be carried out in two phases:

   - The first phase will cover the upgrading of the five existing toll stations and the construction of the first out of the four new toll stations at
     Tabanovce, near the Serbian border.
   - The construction of the remaining three new toll stations will be carried out in the second phase of the Project under a separate design –
     build contract, after the new upgraded tolling system has proved itself to be reliable and has demonstrated that it gives the expected
     benefits.

Tendering for the first phase of the contract is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2012.

Eligibility:

Contracts to be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the Bank will be subject to Bank’s procurement Policies and Rules and will be open to firms from any country. The proceeds of the Bank’s loan will not be used for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, of for any import of goods, if such payment or import is prohibited by a decision of the United Nation Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations or under a law of official regulation of the Purchaser’s country.
