Backgound

The International Tribunal for the Prosecution of Persons Responsible for Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law Committed in the Territory of the Former Yugoslavia since 1991, more commonly referred to as the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia or ICTY, is a body of the United Nations established to prosecute serious crimes committed during the wars in the former Yugoslavia, and to try their perpetrators. The tribunal is an ad hoc UN court which is located in The Hague, The Netherlands.
Interns work under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. The duration of an ICTY internship can range from a minimum of three months to a maximum of six months, according to the needs of the intern’s assigned office.


Responsabilities

The Victims and Witnesses Section is seeking interns to assist in the preparation & implementation of research activities (qualitative and quantitative) of the VWS Pilot Study on the long term impact of testimony on witnesses who testified before the ICTY. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
   - Assist the VWS staff in organizing and preparing material for interviews and other Pilot Study activities.
   - Assist with, processing and compilation of data, data entry, transcription of interviews and other research-related tasks.
   - Translate documents from BCS into English and edit documents for grammar, style and format, in English and BCS.
   - Undertake initial review and analysis of collected data, identify problems/issues and assist in the drafting of report summaries.
   - Assist in literature searches and assembling of information.
   - Assist in organizing final promotional events.
   - Perform other related duties as required.



Requirments

  - University degree or be in the final stages of their undergraduate studies in a relevant field (e.g. social sciences, psychology or other
    related fields).
  - Not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, and must be at least 18 years old.
  - Fluency in oral and written English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian is required. Experience in translation from BCS to English is desirable.
