Background Max. Grant amount: EUR 1.5 million
The European Union (EU) has a long-standing relationship and cooperation with civil society organisations as well as with local authorities in the field of development. It is part of the European Union's (EU) commitment to fight poverty and promote the rule of law and adherence to fundamental freedoms set out in Article 177 (former Article 130u) of the Lisbon Treaty. The communication on "The roots of democracy and sustainable development: Europe's engagement with Civil society in external actions", issued in September 2012, further develops the provisions relating to civil society organisations in the Agenda for Change and builds on the conclusions of the Structured Dialogue on
the involvement of the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Local Authorities (LAs) in EU development cooperation.
