UNDP/INTERNATIONAL CONSULTANT TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND ASSISTANCE TO IN-COUNTRY ORGANIZATION TO PERFORM COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH AMONG MEN HAVING SEX WITH MEN

Background

In 2012, UNDP-Skopje is executing a project funded through UNAIDS additional Program Acceleration Funds 2010-2011. One of the components of the project is to explore different identities, sexual behaviour and sexual health needs of men having sex with men in different socio-cultural environments in Macedonia. In order to undertake the survey, in December 2011 UNDP-Skopje issued an in-country call for proposals for community survey among the population of men-having-sex-with-men. In January 2012, a local organization has been identified to implement the survey. As per the selected proposal, the research will be conducted by a team of experts in the field of gender, HIV and LGBT community work and training respectively. UNDP-Skopje envisaged that experienced international and local consultants will assist the community research in order to improve the research methodology, design and report, as well as to fine-tune the research steps if needed. The selected organization is open for collaboration with the international and local consultant, especially in regards of the development of specific methodology as well as the assessment of the findings and the first proof of the report.

Duration:

The assignment is estimated to take place during 10 working days in the period January 20-June 30 2012. The tasks also envisage an in-country visit to Skopje of maximum 3 working days.

Required Skills and Experience

The international consultant shall meet the following qualifications:

     a) Academic Qualifications – Master degree in social studies, public health, psychology or related sciences.  PhD will be taken as a strong
         asset.
     b) Professional Experience (Specialized Knowledge) – the consultant has 3-5 years of expertise in the area of HIV/MSM issues; the
         consultant has participated as a technical adviser in at least 3 research conducted among population of men-having-sex-with-men. A
         specific experience in similar community surveys to explore gender identities will be taken as an advantage.
     c) Past experience related to the region - Knowledge of the specifics of the surveyed population in the region and the country will be
         considered as a strong advantage
     d) Language Requirements: Proficiency in written and oral English.
