Background
Contemporary Macedonia is ridden by political and ethnic fault lines that imperil social cohesion and stability. The ethnic divides are long-standing and have been “frozen” rather than narrowed by the terms of the 2001 Ohrid Framework Agreement. The country’s political polarization has been deepening for years. As of 2015 Macedonia is among the countries most affected by the influx of refugees and migrants with estimated number of some 800,000 arrivals by March 2016 (border closing). However, after the border closure, crossing into the country continued through irregular routes. Addressing these challenges is central to the UNDP aim of preventing conflict and building inclusive, safe, peaceful and resilient societies. But it is extremely difficult owing to national constraints on explicitly political activities and public impatience with “reconciliation.”
Tasks
The primary objective of the public opinion research is to provide in-depth understanding of the general satisfaction of the youth with their prospects in the country. The assignment will result in creation of basic indicators of the youth perception on the job opportunities available to young people who have formal or non-formal education obtained in the country or outside the country, their career preferences; the overall labor force status of the young population in the country; the level of social cohesion and inter – cultural communication; as well as the level of civic engagement and youth participation in policy decision making process, especially on local level. This will define the input parameters for the general satisfaction of the youth with their prospects in the country and will also serve as a basis on determining the main factors that affect the young people to seek prospects for their future abroad.
