The number of emergency situations around the world is increasing. When a crisis erupts, or within the context of an ongoing emergency, there are many funding mechanisms that are available. However, it can be difficult to access this funding, due to the system’s complexity and the chaos that ensues in an emergency situation. It can be very difficult to know what is available and from whom. The situation can be particularly difficult for smaller or national NGOs, who may find themselves unable to access funding. However, this shouldn’t defer them from trying, particularly as they may be better placed to respond quickly to the communities needs.
