Background:

Project:  Integrated Ecosystem Management in the Prespa Lakes Basin

The transboundary Prespa Lake is one of the oldest lakes on Earth, estimated to be more than 5 million years old. The entire basin is a very unique ecological and hydrological system. It is an integral system composed of valuable natural ecosystems, which are home to more than 2,000 species of animals, plants and birds, making it an area of global ecological significance.

Because of its local and global significance, and the ongoing degradation trends, the Prespa Lake ecosystem has been in the focus of interest of all three co-basin states. The international community has been generously supporting these processes for the last 7-8 years. Thanks to the technical and financial support from UNDP, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Swiss Development Cooperation Agency (SDC), KfW, GTZ and others, a variety of important projects have been successfuly implemented.

The consultant will be responsible for carrying out a thorough review of the UNDP programme on Integrated Ecosystem Management implemented in the Macedonian part of the Prespa Lake Basin. The process will result in a comprehensive review report, which can be easily adjusted for different purposes.

Competencies:

  - At least 10 years of relevant professional experience (design, management and evaluation of complex projects in the area of environment,
    infrastructure and similar);
  - Experience as a lead expert from at least 5 projects (e.g. design and management of environmental investment projects, complex feasibility
    studies and similar), 2 of which would involve evaluation work;
  - Previous relevant knowledge of the Prespa region and/or the UNDP programme will be considered an asset;
  - Experience in Project Cycle Management;

Required Skills and Experience:

  - Minimum university degree in relevant area (Management, Engineering, Environment, or similar). Advanced degree will be considered an
     asset;
  - Excellent English writing skills.

Starting Date: 1 March 2012

Duration: Estimated 30 working days over a period of 1.5 months. The assignment needs to be completed in a period of up to 1.5 months
                 upon signing of contract.
