Description:
The Regional Research Promotion Programme (RRPP) Western Balkans, launched in 2007, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), is aimed at establishing and strengthening research capacities in the field of social sciences in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
The RRPP provides funding to researchers from the region conducting relevant research projects.
The RRPP Management, hosted at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, is launching a call for regional research project proposals; open to both researchers and institutions from and residing in the Western Balkans.
The research topics to be submitted should be relevant to transitional themes while addressing and analysing specific issues under investigation from a social science perspective and applying scientific theoretical concepts. Furthermore, the proposals must fit into the regional umbrella topic, “Political, Social and Economic Change in the Western Balkans.” This includes the following priority areas:
Beyond ethnicity:
1. Social and economic change and the challenges of (new) social disparities
2. States, networks and informality

Funding is provided for projects with the maximum duration of 12 months. Initial funding is provided for 12 months.

Eligibility:
Applications for RRPP Research Project funding may be submitted by research institutions (public, private but accredited, non-governmental organisations, independent research institutes) from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia. Researchers from Montenegro can also be a part of a research consortium. There must be at least one leading research institution responsible for the whole consortium; other country-related teams can also be composed of research groups, which are not necessarily attached to an institution. The leading institution is responsible for sub-contracting and thus for the implementation of the whole project towards the University of Fribourg.
