Description:
The Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law (CISRUL) offers a number of inter-disciplinary 3-year PhD studentships each year. The studentships will include full fees (UK/Europe or overseas) and may include partial maintenance. They welcome applicants from anthropology, cultural and literary studies, history, legal theory and socio-legal studies, philosophy, politics, religious studies, sociology and theology.
Note: applicants must hold or be close to completing a postgraduate Masters degree in a relevant field.
Criteria for selection:
1. Quality of application
2. Closeness of fit to the Centre's Mission Statement
3. Closeness of fit to one or more of our PhD supervisors
In Section 2 of your application form please make sure you do the following:
1. Under Programme, you can either:
a. select Doctor of Philosophy in your preferred discipline, e.g. Anthropology, Politics, History...
b. or select Doctor of Philosophy in Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law
2. Under Intended Source of Funding:
a. if you have printed out the form, write "Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law studentships"
b. if you are applying online, select "Univ of Abedeen Waiver or Scholarship" and then write "Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and
Rule of Law studentship" in the research title box under For Research Students Only.
3. Under Prospective Supervisor (if known) you could write the name of the Centre member or members whose interests are closest to
yours (see list of People on the CISRUL website) or otherwise just leave it blank.
4. Write "Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law studentship" in the box for research title, followed by the title of your
proposed project (maximum 240 characters).
In Sections 12 and 13:
1. Make sure you give us as much information as possible in your Personal Statement (Section 12).
2. In Section 13, you must upload evidence of your degree certificate, transcript, two letters of reference, and proof of English proficiency
if you are not a native speaker.
