Description:

The University of Reading is one of the top-200 universities in the world and the School of Law is one of the leading Law Schools in the United Kingdom. In the most recent UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) in 2008 the Law School was ranked joint 7th (along with Cambridge) for world-leading research and international excellence. It came 11th out of 67 law schools across all research categories. The School has a strong interest in interdisciplinary work and applications are welcome from candidates with degrees not only in Law but also in Criminology, Sociology, History, Politics, Economics or other related disciplines.

As a PhD student you will be a part of the School and a part of a community of postgraduate researchers. You will have excellent facilities and support, including research training programmes, reading groups, informal lunches, seminars, financial support for conferences and the like, and career development strategies. All Law candidates have access to the Graduate School where there is 24-hour access to computing facilities throughout the year, study space and a range of up-to- date facilities for the exclusive use of postgraduate research students.

Scholarships

Up to three School of Law scholarships will be offered for students entering the PhD programme in 2012-13. Scholarships will cover tuition fees at the home/EU rate (£3,825 per year) and provide a research allowance of £250 a year for full-time candidates. Scholarships will run for three years, subject to satisfactory progress. No stipend is attached to these scholarships. Award holders will not be required to teach. (There may, however, be opportunities to teach during candidature. Any teaching would be undertaken as a sessional teacher and paid accordingly in the usual way.)

Eligibility

Scholarships are open to UK, EU and International Students. International students will be required to make up the difference between home/EU and international fee rates.
