Objectives:
The objective of the assignment is to support the climate risk assessment process that will be carried out in the selected statistical region by ensuring that the climate risks are properly identified and mapped, and appropriate measures to reduce the risks are developed. The outputs of the assignment should serve as inputs for various developments plans on local level, as well as for planning of concrete demonstration activities that will address climate and disaster risks at local level in the selected statistical region.
Duration:
The assignment shall be completed in 13 (thirteen) working days in period of 6 (six) months starting in April 2012 and ending in September 2012. It is expected that the assignment will include two missions to the country each for 2-3 days, tentatively in early May 2012 and in early July 2012.
Competencies
- Previous experience in community level climate and disaster risk management initiatives shall be considered as a strong asset;
- Excellent knowledge of climate change and climate risk management and their inter-linkages with development processes;
- Excellent knowledge of methodological research and tools;
- Experience in working with different stakeholders (government bodies, municipalities etc.) including civil society organizations;
- Proven experience on preparation of written reports in an accurate and concise manner, and public presentation skills;
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, sense of initiative;
- Excellent analytical and writing skills;
- Planning and organizational skills;
- Full working knowledge of English.
Required Skills and Experience
- Advanced university degree in the thematic areas relevant to the assignment (environmental science, natural sciences, social sciences,
disaster risk management);
- At least 8 years of experience in disaster and/or climate risk reduction/climate change at the international level.
