Objectives:
The objective of the assignment is to support the disaster and climate risk assessment process that will be carried out in the selected statistical region by ensuring that the disaster risks are properly identified and mapped and appropriate measures to reduce these risks are developed. The outputs of the assignment should serve as inputs for various developments plans on local level, as well as for planning of concrete demonstration activities that will address climate and disaster risks at local level in the selected statistical region.
During the fulfilment of the assignment, the Consultant shall closely cooperate with the international consultant as well as the national consultant on climate change. In addition he/she shall also closely cooperate and coordinate the activities with the appointed representatives from the relevant national institutions, municipalities and UNDP teams.
Duration:
The assignment shall be completed in estimated 50 (fifty) working days in period of 6 (six) months starting in April 2012 and ending in September 2012. The Assignment shall follow the logical sequences of implementation of activities.
Competencies
• At least 5 years working experience in areas relevant for the assignment (crisis management, strategic planning, security affairs);
• Previous experience in preparation of risks assessments, and/or comprehensive reports, and/or strategic plans, etc.
• Previous experience in projects from crisis management/disaster risk reduction/ security affairs areas;
• Profound knowledge of the Macedonian crisis/disaster risk management system;
• Understanding of climate change and related risks to key development sectors in the country;
• Profound knowledge of methodological research and tools;
• Experience in working with different stakeholders (government bodies, municipalities etc.) including civil society organizations;
• Good presentation and communication skills, sense of initiative;
• Excellent analytical and writing skills;
• Planning and organizational skills;
• Experience in working with and reporting to international/donor organization will be an advantage;
• Full working knowledge of English.
Required Skills and Experience
- University degree in the thematic areas relevant to the assignment (security studies, social sciences, natural sciences). Advanced
university is an asset;
