Deadline: 16-11-2011 Location: United Kingdom, United States Back

Background

The Global Leaders Fellowship Programme, at Oxford and Princeton, offers post-doctoral fellowships in world politics and political economy for holders of a doctorate who are nationals of a developing country. Up to six fellowships, with appropriate stipends sufficient to cover full living costs, will be awarded in each of the next two years. Fellows will study at Oxford for one year, followed by a year at Princeton. The programme intends to establish a network of leading scholar-practitioners in global governance. The programme creates a network of scholars and practitioners with expertise in the key issues surrounding glottalization. Promising early-career scholars are identified, with a particular emphasis on individuals from developing countries, and provided with a rigorous intellectual programme at two world-class institutions with considerable specific strengths in the political, economic, and policy issues surrounding glottalization. The Fellows become part of a network designed to give them support and mentorship.

Objectives of the programme

The objective of this programme is to contribute to the training of a cohort of scholar-practitioners who will help devise innovative strategies to enhance the value of global institutions to the people of developing countries. We believe that for global institutions to fulfill their potential, they must be better-aligned with the interests of people in developing countries, and that only nationals of the developing countries have the in-depth local knowledge to be able to devise culturally appropriate and politically adept strategies to accomplish this goal. We therefore seek to make a contribution toward increased equity and development in the global political economy by helping to train future leaders.

Eligibility

Applicants must be nationals of non-OECD countries (this is a condition stipulated by the donor). They must have completed (or have evidence of imminent completion of) a doctorate in a relevant area. They should also show evidence of outstanding analytical and research skills. In addition, candidates will be required to demonstrate their plans for a clearly articulated research project which is relevant to the Programme's aims.
