Background:
The Office of the Senior Economist (http://europeandcis.undp.org/senioreconomist) of UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS provides economic research, analysis, and expertise needed to better support governments in this region, in their efforts to meet the Millennium Development Goals. This office, which is based in UNDP’s Bratislava Regional Centre (BRC), provides support to UNDP senior management in New York and Bratislava, as well as to UNDP Country Offices in the Europe and CIS region. The Senior Economist also works closely with the BRC’s communications and knowledge management teams. This include preparing blog post for their webpage based on the Senior Economist Office work and research and also improving the content disposition and presentation of the Senior Economist webpage according to the style and outline used by the UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS webpage.
Since its July 2010 launch, the Senior Economist Office’s web site has generated a weekly stream of content. Some of this content—particularly its short papers/blog postings — has been of general interest. These papers have been republished in local media and quoted in international and national media and web sites; and they have elicited positive feedback from UNDP Country Offices and other national partners, including via comments posted on the Senior Economist Office’s web site. In a continuous effort to make the content available on the senior economist office webpage more user-friendly and easily accessible to non-economist readers in 2011 the Senior Economist started transforming power point presentations, papers, longer researches, short write-up into papers, articles, or blogs, for dissemination via the SEO and/or RBEC website(s). This has been particularly successful with the background research produced for the Central Asia Regional Risk Assessment (CARRA) 2011 meeting.
The Senior Economist Office is therefore looking for an intern to assist in the communications, outreach, and dissemination of the data, research and analysis it generates. At the same time the intern will also support the economist in the work related to transforming the content produced by the senior economist office into papers, articles, or blogs, for dissemination via the SEO and/or RBEC website(s). This work will involve close cooperation with the Senior Economist’s Office’s vulnerability economist and the vulnerability economist and data base manager, and possibly other members of the BRC communications and knowledge management teams.
