Background:
The European Union is a central partner of the United Nations. As the world’s largest provider of ODA, the EU provides funds to support UN development and humanitarian activities. It is also an important policy partner.
Since its establishment in 1995, the UN-UNDP Office in Brussels has progressively strengthened its engagement with institutions of the European Union, including the European Parliament, European Commission and European Council. The UNDP Director in Brussels is also the United Nations Director, representing the UN Secretary-General with the EU and Belgium. S/he and the two Deputy Directors - for Programme/Operations and Policy/Communications - bring the UN Brussels team together to engage with the European Union as “One UN” as appropriate. The UN team currently consists of 26 UN specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes, the Secretariat and the UN University (in Bruges). Since 2004, UNDP has a Strategic Partnership Agreement with the European Commission, covering governance, post-conflict recovery, conflict prevention and the environment.
The UN/UNDP Brussels Office also maintains relations with the Government of Belgium.
The current organigramme includes direct supervision by the Deputy Director, Policy and Communications, of a UN Coordination Officer, a UN Policy Officer, a UNDP Advisor (Africa) and an Administrative Assistant.

Required Skills and Experience
Education
Advanced university degree in international relations or other political /social sciences.
Experience
At least 10 years relevant experience in development, working in a governmental, multilateral or civil society organization, with growing levels of responsibility.
Language Requirements
- Excellent spoken and written skills in English.
- Good knowledge of French a distinct asset.
