Background:

The UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the centre of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.
 
The Strategic Partnerships, Coordination and Intergovernmental Bureau leads and coordinates UN Women’s implementation of its system-wide and interagency mandates and functions. Central to this is the operationalization of the intergovernmental mandate expressed in its founding resolution in which the UN’s General Assembly decided that UN Women will “lead, coordinate and promote the accountability of the United Nations system in its work on gender equality and the empowerment of women” at the global, regional and country levels.
 
The Coordination Adviser reports to the Director of the UN System Coordination Division of the Strategic Partnerships, Coordination and Intergovernmental Bureau of UN Women who provides overall strategic direction, guidance and oversight. The Adviser is responsible for implementing UN Women’s Coordination Strategy as it pertains to the UN System’s operational activities for development. S\he will work to enhance the coherence of the UN System’s work, to facilitate the mobilization of joint action, and to promote accountability, for the UN System’s work on gender equality and the empowerment of women, including supporting the use and development of accountability frameworks.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Master’s degree or equivalent in one or more of the following disciplines: gender issues, social sciences, economics, or other related fields.  

Experience:

  - Over 10 years of experience that combines strategic and managerial leadership in administration, business management, planning and
    operations in a large international and/or corporate organization.
  - Experience in the UN Common System required.

Language Requirements:

Written and oral proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of the other UN working knowledge is desirable.
