When dealing with climate change, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) believes in young scientists. Therefore, the Ministry annually announces the international "Green Talents"-competition, focusing on young outstanding scientists active in the field of sustainability research.
Since 2009 the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) invites young researchers from all over the world to take part in "Green Talents - The International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development". The winners are awarded for their creative and intelligent solutions in the fields of climate protection, sustainable resource and land-use management as well as energy efficiency. With this programme the BMBF seeks to intensify the global exchange between young researchers in the field of environmental and sustainability research.
Aims:
• Globally publicise Germany’s strengths as a centre of research and innovation in the field of sustainable technologies.
• Intensify international R&D cooperation in the field of sustainability research, especially in threshold and developing countries.
• Attract promising young scientists to Germany ("brain circulation").
A high-ranking jury of German experts from academia and industry selects outstanding scientists from all over the world. The winners are invited to a science forum which takes them across Germany. By visiting leading centres of German environmental and sustainability research (research institutions as well as companies that are active in R&D) they get hands-on experience of the country's research landscape. Moreover, the "Green Talents" are given the opportunity to conduct a research stay (up to three months) in Germany the year following the forum, a unique opportunity which many of them make use of. Both, the journey and the research stay are funded by the BMBF.
Deadline: 10 June 2012
