BUL / BULGARIA GRANTS TO TV AND RADIO QUESTIONED

   http://www.balkaninsight.com - The initiative by the ruling centre-right Citizens for European
   Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, comes ahead of elections due this year. Tomislav Donchev,
   minister in charge of EU funds, announced the plan on Monday. But according to the daily
   newspaper, Sega, the total amount is even higher since it does not include money to advertise the
   "most generous" programme, for the development of rural areas, which comes under the agriculture
   ministry’s authority. This will be the largest sum distributed for such purposes in the course of a single
   year. In 2012, the amount was 4.2 million euro. Experts say such generous government financing of
   media could place them in a politically delicate position in an election year.
