Cooperation at border crossing points was the focus of a workshop in Baku last month,
organised by an EU-funded Eastern Partnership project on cooperation in the fight against
illegal migration. The workshop on green borders brought together border guards and

Polish Border Guard. The main objective of the workshop was to exchange experience of
cooperation in border management and professional training.

The workshop started with an exchange of current practices in cooperation with other
agencies working at the border. International cooperation, mainly with neighboring
countries, was also on the agenda, as well as the topic of human rights in border management,

The workshop also tackled issues of basic education and in-service training of the border guard and police staff of the four represented countries, showcased by a visit to the Academy of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan. Following a presentation of the training systems in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary and Poland, participants discussed possible modalities of cooperation with other training institutions in the Eastern Partnership region and with the project partners in EU member states.
