LEB/ LEBANON: EU HELPS DISABLED PEOPLE LIVE IN DIGNITY

Ways of “Living in Dignity” were at the centre of a national conference on the subject of disability
held last week in Beirut. The event addressed the lack of some of the most basic services,
standards and eligibility criteria that can enable persons with disabilities to live independently
and in dignity.
The event was part of the project “Strengthening the role of the disability movement in
promoting the rights of marginalised persons with disabilities in Lebanon,” which is funded
by the European Union and implemented by Handicap International.
It included representatives from the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Health, disabled
persons' organisations and groups of persons with disabilities and UNRWA. The EU was
represented by First Counsellor and Head of the Sustainable Development Section at the
