GEO/ EU SUPPORT TO GEORGIA: REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME 2015-2017

The Georgian government with the support of the European Union has presented its Regional
Development Programme for the period 2015-2017, aimed at ensuring balanced and
sustainable socio-economic development across the country.
A press release from EU Delegation to Georgia said the programme would focus "on the
developmental inequalities both between Greater Tbilisi and the rest of the country, and on
rural-urban divisions outside the capital" as well as ”on economic development, job creation,
and improving the quality of life to bridge these gaps".
On the next two years, the EU has already provided €30 million to the Georgian government to
assist in programme implementation, as a sign of its support.
The Regional Development Programme is based on the principles of the EU's cohesion policy. This Programme is the first such programme among Eastern Partnership countries that really embodies the well-established programming practices found within the EU, and as such will be a model for other countries to follow, the press release said...(link)
