A meeting has been held in Tbilisi to discuss regional cross-border electricity trade and steps
for attracting investments in the development of this area. The meeting brought together
state officials from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Russia and Turkey as well as the
EU-funded INOGATE energy programme, and representatives from international
organisations.
The development of regional energy markets allows electricity and gas to be traded easily
across borders, moving from where it is produced to where it is needed and also to reduce
price volatility.
An INOGATE expert outlined the current status of technical assistance provided to INOGATE
Partner countries for improving cross-border energy trade and cooperation across three
regional markets – Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.
INOGATE is an EU-funded programme promoting international energy co-operation between the European Union and the Partner Countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
