Background: Max. Budget: 200.000 USD
UN Women invites civil society organizations to submit proposals for multi-country projects (minimum three countries) towards the implementation of the UN Women 2012-2013 Central and Southeastern Europe sub-regional Workplan and achievement of Outcome 1.4.4. “Gender advocates participate effectively in integrating gender equality into legislative and policy processes” with focus on young women including those from marginalized groups. The call is opened for registered civil society organizations from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia. UN Women was established by UN General Assembly Resolution 64/298 of 2 July 2010 on system-wide coherence, with a mandate to assist Member States and the UN system to progress more effectively and efficiently towards the goal of achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women. Key areas of concern related specifically to women’s rights and gender equality where UN Women in the Central and Southeastern Europe (CSEE) subregion have been providing demand driven support to national partners include: women’s economic empowerment, ending violence against women, support for gender responsive policies and enhancing women’s peace and security agenda.
Guiding principles in designing the project:
• Human rights-based and gender-responsive approaches that place first priority on promoting, protecting and fulfilling the human rights of
women and girls, as well as strengthening institutional capacities at local levels to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women.
• Transformation of inequitable gender norms and power disparities between women and men and empowerment of women and girls to
thrive as equals.
• Holistic responses that address women’s inter-related rights and needs, including safety, access to health, and economic security.
• Focus on priority groups, including those living in poverty or otherwise especially excluded or disadvantaged, and ensuring responsiveness
to diversity.
• Coordination and multi-sectoral partnerships, including among government, nongovernmental, women’s and other civil society groups,
employers and workers’ associations.
• Commitment to sharing knowledge, by documenting, evaluating and disseminating results, and working with UN Women staff
in the process.
• Evidence-based programming, building on lessons learned and recommended practices, to ensure optimal results and use of resources.
Funding levels and duration of proposals:
Budget requests should not exceed USD 200.000 in total. Project implementation period should be no longer than 17 months,
