European Voluntary Service - EVS gives the opportunity to young people between the ages of 18 and 30 to take part individually or in groups in a voluntary activity abroad that benefits the general public. The voluntary service takes place in another country, for a period of 2 to 12 months (long term). It is Action 2 of the five actions within the Youth in Action programme. An EVS project involves a partnership between three partners: a volunteer, a sending organization and a host organization. An EVS activity can take place in a variety of areas: culture, youth, sports, social care, cultural heritage, arts, civil protection, environment, development cooperation, etc.
Individual EVS activity
Involves only one volunteer, one sending organization and one host organisation. offers an intensive learning experience, individualized support, high impact on personal development and strong integration opportunities with the local community.
Group EVS activity
Allows volunteers to take part collectively in a voluntary activity at local, regional, national, European or international level and to benefit from individual and group learning experiences. up to 100 volunteers can participate in the same host organization or - split up in smaller sub-groups - in different host organizations. has to ensure a group character for both the learning processes and the service for the benefit of the community, and also has to ensure a common thematic approach and regular contacts among the volunteers.
Duration
The EVS activity abroad should have a minimum duration of 2 months and a maximum overall duration of 12 months (excluding preparation and evaluation).
Participants
Volunteers are aged between 18 and 30, and have to be legally resident in a Programme Country or in a Partner Country. Certain activities may admit young people from 16 years of age.
Sending/hosting organization
Any type of non-governmental organization, association, local authority or any other non-profit-making local initiative, which is legally established in a programme country or in a partner country
Co-coordinating organization (applicant)
A non-profit making organization or association, a local, regional or national authority organizing body of an event in the area of youth, sport or culture with non-profit or profit making status international governmental organization. Organizations located in Partner Countries other than countries of South East Europe can be sending or host organizations, but they cannot be 'coordinating organizations'
The Programme Countries are:
- 27 EU Member States, the EEA (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and Turkey.
The Neighboring Partner Countries are:
- South East Europe: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Former Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia.
- Eastern Europe and Caucasus: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russian Federation, Ukraine.
- Mediterranean Partner Countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority of the West Bank and Gaza Strip,
Syria, Tunisia.
