Description
The University of Vienna and the Vienna University of Technology provide the Vienna Doctoral Program on Complex Quantum Systems (CoQuS). CoQuS is a training center for more than 40 students who are selected from an international pool of applicants, based on their academic excellence, scientific success and ambition. Research in CoQuS covers experimental and theoretical quantum physics. The doctoral program offers PhD research and training opportunities in the following fields:
- Quantum Nanophysics & Molecular Quantum Optics;
- Quantum Foundations;
- Quantum Information on the Nano- & Microscale;
- Quantum Optics Theory;
- Nano-Fiber Photonics & Quantum Optics;
- Cold atoms and atom chips;
- Quantum-enhanced measurement & metrology;
- Quantum cascade lasers & quantum dots;
- Many-body quantum theory;
- Quantum information sciences & quantum computation;
- Quantum Information and Foundations of Physics;
- Quantum effects in biological systems.
The official start of the PhD is set for autumn 2015.
Eligibility
The call is open to applicants from all over the world who are holding a Master’s degree. They seek to increase the percentage of women in physics. The CoQuS faculty therefore explicitly encourages qualified female students to apply.
Scholarship
The support includes:
- A gross salary of about 1.996,90 €/month (this incl. tax & health benefits)
- A tuition waiver
- Travel to scientific work shops, schools and conferences
- Exchange program to partner universities
- Soft skill trainings & language courses
