Background


The United States Embassy is seeking applications for its Democracy Commission Small Grants Program competition for fiscal year 2017 to support initiatives to help in the development of democracy, respect for human rights, and civic education in Armenia pending funding availability. Projects should have a direct relevance to the development of democratic institutions and should be sufficiently specific about the impact of the proposed activities on the democratic development of Armenia.

Focus Areas

  - Enhance cooperation among the media, civil society, and the general public to eliminate different forms of corruption;
  - Advance human rights, especially those with a focus on minorities and vulnerable groups within society, including individuals with disabilities,
    victims of gender-based violence, refugees, and members of the LGBTI community;
  - Promote opportunities for women and integrate women into decision-making processes within their communities, especially those with a
    focus on young women;
  - Promote good governance and civic participation;
  - Promote independent, diverse and pluralistic media development in Armenia, including investigative journalism;
  - Promote importance of entrepreneurship and boost entrepreneurial skills;
  - Promote reconciliation and development of partnerships between the people of Armenia and Azerbaijan and/or Turkey.

Eligibility Criteria

  - Non-governmental, non-for-profit organizations (NGOs) and independent media outlets.
  - Grants may not be used for partisan political activities.

Grant Size
 

  - Award Floor: $5,000
  - Award Ceiling: $24,000
